Our firm

Valeriano Hernández Abogados is a general practice law firm founded in 1991, which deals with matters in all branches of law.

Consequently, the firm litigates before national courts of all levels, as well as before the Constitutional Court, the European courts of justice and the European Court of Human Rights.

The firm is also involved in national and international arbitration, and its lawyers frequently act as arbitrators.

Team

Valeriano Hernández-Tavera Martín

Valeriano is the founder and director of the firm.

He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Navarra in 1979, obtaining the Extraordinary Bachelor’s Degree Award and the National End of Degree Award. He also holds a Doctorate in Law, winning the Extraordinary Doctorate Award.

He was a State Attorney from 1982 to 2000. He has been a member of the Legal Service of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and of the National High Court, as well as Deputy Director-General of the State Legal Service.

He was also correspondent in Spain for the Committee on Legal Cooperation of the Council of Europe for 15 years.

He has been practising law since 1979 and acts as arbitrator in the main Spanish arbitration courts and in the Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce.

Laura Salazar Martínez

Laura Salazar obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and a Diploma in Business Consultancy from Pontificia Comillas University in 1994 (ICADE, E-1). She also obtained the Diploma of Advanced Studies in Law from Rey Juan Carlos University in 2004.

She has more than 20 years of professional experience. She has been a practising lawyer since 1999 and a member of the firm since 2000. Before joining the firm, she worked as an interim State Attorney in the State Legal Service in Toledo.

She also acts as arbitrator at the Madrid Court of Arbitration and the Spanish Court of Arbitration, and has acted as arbitrator, legal counsel and arbitration secretary in national and international, institutional and ad hoc arbitrations.

Fernando Azpeitia Gamazo

Fernando obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and a Diploma in Business Consultancy from Pontificia Comillas University in 1987.

He has been a practising lawyer since 1991 and a member of the firm since it was founded, and hence has more than 30 years of professional experience.

Throughout his career, Fernando has been involved as a lawyer in judicial proceedings of all jurisdictional levels, in arbitration proceedings and, in general, in matters of all kinds.

Vicente Giménez Ontañón

Vicente Giménez obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1995.

He has more than 20 years of professional experience. He has been a practising lawyer since 1998, when he joined the firm.

Vicente has acted as secretary in arbitrations administered by the Madrid Court of Arbitration and the Madrid International Arbitration Centre.

He is also a mediator and is registered in the Registry of Mediators of the Ministry of Justice, after passing in 2015 the Higher Course on Civil and Commercial Mediation of the School of Business Practice of the National University of Distance Education.

Mario Timoneda de Francisco

Mario obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid in 2014 and a Master’s Degree in International Business Law from the same university in 2015, obtaining the Mention of Excellence.

He is a practising lawyer and a member of the firm since 2015.

Mario has acted as arbitrator in the Civil and Commercial Court of Arbitration of Madrid and in the Spanish Court of Arbitration. He also regularly acts as an arbitration secretary in institutional, national and international arbitrations.

He is also a mediator and has been registered in the Register of Mediators of the Ministry of Justice since 2021, after passing the Specialisation Course in Civil and Commercial Mediation at ISDE Law Business School.

Lucía Palacio Derqui

Lucía Palacio obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 2011.

She has been a practising lawyer since 2021 and a member of the firm since 2023. Before practising as a lawyer, she prepared for the entrance exams to the judiciary.
